That’s a wrap…

Gift giving season is finally here! We have spent countless hours finding all the best gifts for the special people in our lives and can’t wait to give them out. But first, we need to think about gift wrapping.

Do you have a puzzle with a few missing pieces? Why not repurpose the leftover pieces and create personalized holiday greetings and names tags.

Create festive snowflake and snowman designs by dipping the end of a pencil onto some construction paper. You can create a few small designs or one large design.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day!  It’s nice to have a day to appreciate your loved ones, especially in these hectic times when it seems like we are all busy, all of the time!

It’s not too late if you’re still in need of a Valentine’s Day gift.  Here are a few last minute ideas.

Godiva Chocolate Bear, $25.  Here in NY you can find Godiva at Hudson News and Barnes & Noble.  This guy is so cute… the bear is made by Gund and he comes with 8 tasty heart shaped chocolates (milk and dark).

Of course it’s probably too late to have flowers delivered, but you can always pick some up.  Even grocery store flowers can be quite alright!  Certainly better than nothing.  Here in NYC you can buy roses on the street today.  It seems tons of enterprising people have decided to sell roses on street corners… very handy for last minute gifts!

Another classic Valentine is fragrance!  It’s easy and fast to just run into a department store or Sephora and pick one up.  I like See by Chloe and Bond No. 9 I LOVE NEW YORK for Earth Day (women) and Bleu de Chanel (men).

Last idea, and super easy… is just run into a wine shop and pick up a nice bottle of Champagne.  Champagne is always correct as far as I’m concerned!  And you don’t in fact need to spend a lot… one of my favorite Champagnes is Piper-Heidsieck Brut NV.  My local wine shops have it for about $35 – 37.  It’s a great value.  The non vintage releases regularly score over 90 points (WS) and was one of WS’s 2012 Top 100 Wines.  I know most people automatically go for Veuve Clicquot, but I think this is just as good and a better value… and, the red label is perfect for Valentine’s day too!

For next year… don’t leave it to the last minute!  A really amazing gift is a set of luxurious Italian sheets like Virtuoso or Lyric by Peacock Alley!  Unlike chocolate, flowers, perfume or Champagne, these will last for years to come!

Great Valentine Gift: Draper Stripe Throw

I simply adore throw blankets… I must have 4 or 5 of them.  I prefer natural fibers like wool and cashmere. With Valentine’s Day coming up, I think our Draper Stripe Throw by Dwell Studio would be a wonderful gift!   We have both the chinois blue and the major brown in stock.  This blanket is made with baby alpaca (95%) and just a touch of polyester (5%), and is a generous 50 x 70 inches in size.

So what is alpaca exactly… it’s a lot like wool. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it: “Alpaca fleece is a lustrous and silky natural fiber. While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and bears no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. It is also soft and luxurious. In physical structure, alpaca fiber is somewhat akin to hair, being very glossy. The preparing, carding, spinning, weaving and finishing process of alpaca is very similar to the process used for wool. Alpaca fiber is also flame-resistant, and meets the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s standards.”

Like any fiber, different qualities certainly exist… the alpaca used in Dwell Studio’s throw is very high quality making it super soft.  I have seen samples of lesser quality that do not have the same beautiful hand-feel.  You can be sure with this blanket you’re getting the best!
