Linen itself is a fabric made from flax fibers, and is one of the oldest types of fabric in the world. The exclusivity of linen stems from the fact that it is difficult and time consuming to produce. Flax is difficult to weave because of its lack of elasticity, and therefore is more expensive to manufacture than cotton. The benefits of linen however, are unmatched. Linen is a stronger fabric than cotton. Also, linen is highly absorbent and gives an impression of coolness (it's fabulous to sleep on linen sheets in the Summer). While many people think of linen as a crisp fabric it actually gets incredibly soft with repeated washing and use. Linen products tend to outlast cotton, lasting up to 20 years, thanks to the strength of the flax fibers. We offer linen shams, bedskirts, boudoir pillows, drapery panels and fabric yardage in our Rio Linen Coordinates by Peacock Alley.
