27 September 06 - 16:50Thoughts on an All White Bed

I absolutely love the look of an all white bed.  It has a clean, chic look and it's so inviting - like sleeping in a big white cloud.  All white may sound boring, but it needn't be.  Adding texture and layering adds the needed visual interest. Vienna and Duet

The place to start is with sheets, some deluxe options are Virtuoso or Lyric in white.  Some other great options are 600 Egyptian Sateen and Duet.  Then add a coverlet with texture like Vienna, Vienna Tailored, or Duet Quilted.  Then for the layering effect, top this with a puffy duvet and duvet cover.  For duvets, my favorite is the Heirloom, with its super soft and silky ticking and lightweight Hungarian white goose down fill.  Then choose a duvet cover that will create contrast to your coverlet.  For example, if you have a Vienna coverlet, you can contrast with either a stripe or solid.  With Duet Quilted, contrast with a solid duvet cover.  This is more interesting than having everything on your bed the exact same style.  Then I also always recommend extra pillows: Euro shams for sure, and why not a boudoir pillow!  Our Rio white linen is a perfect complement to nearly anything because it has a plain weave but the distinctive texture of linen.

Worried about keeping your white bed clean?  Good concern!  Common sense is all that needs to be employed, certainly your dog can't jump on the bed and you can't spread out your newspaper on it!  Simple solution: toss a throw blanket (not white) on top of your bed if you're putting anything on it that might rub off.

A white bed also reminds me of some hotels where I've stayed.  The Boulders in Carefree, AZ is one of those.  Boulders ResortThey make their beds in white Italian sheeting by Mascioni.  (p.s. we're getting Mascioni sheets in stock at Linenplace very soon!) Their beds have really thick mattress pads, Mascioni white solid sateen sheets, and a light and fluffy down duvet in a Mascioni white striped duvet cover.  This was a truly sublime bed!

White beds are not just for Summer either!  You can have a white bed any time or all year 'round if you want.  Just like "no white after Labor Day" for apparel, there are no rules anymore; it's just whatever you like!

21 September 06 - 16:04Google and PayPal Payment at Linenplace

In today's unfortunate world of rampant credit card fraud, many customers feel uncomfortable sharing their credit card information.  At Linenplace we understand this and go to great lengths to make sure that shopping with us is safe and convenient.  Paying with PayPal is a great option for customers who want to minimize the number of websites to whom they give their credit card information.  PayPal allows you to pay for a Linenplace order without sharing your credit card information with us and they also protect you against unauthorized use of your PayPal account.  Another new payment option is Google Checkout.  As with PayPal, when you use Google Checkout you do not need to share your credit card information with us.  Your credit card information is kept by Google on their secure server (protected by 128-bit encryption) and your payment is processed by Google who then pays Linenplace for your order.  However, if you do choose to use your credit card at Linenplace, it's good to know a few things: 1. all credit card data is passed for authorization through 128-bit encryption   2. when your credit card is authorized, it also goes through address verification of your billing address  3. of course, our check-out pages use https (the standard encrypted communication mechanism) which protects your information while it is in transit between your computer and us  4. a real human being looks at every order to screen for suspicious orders.  For most of us, NOT shopping on-line is simply not an option because it's just too darn convenient and we're just too busy!  We hope that our payment solutions make you feel comfortable shopping at Linenplace.  Cheerio and happy shopping.

18 September 06 - 17:24Down for Allergy Sufferers

Many people are under the impression that because of their allergies they cannot use down products.  Did you know that certain down products are actually hypoallergenic?  All down products are made with down that has been washed and sterilized in a high pressure, high temperature washing and drying system.  Hypoallergenic down products are washed further "super-cleaned" to achieve excellent levels of purity.  Down's purity is measured by two tests: turbidity and oxygen number.  Turbidity is a test to see how transparent the rinse water is when you are finished washing the down. To perform this test, a sample of down is put in a container of distilled water and vigorously agitated for 30 minutes. The sample water is then poured into a tube that is 1,000 mm high. This tube has a crosshair site at the bottom of it. The water is poured into the tube - - the highest level of water with still being able to see the crosshair at the bottom is the turbidity test result.  The higher, the cleaner the down is. The normal industry standard is 300 mm.  Hypoallergenic down must test at 500 mm or greater.  The oxygen number test is a rather complicated scientific test, but the result is similar to the turbidity test, in that it measures the cleanliness of the down material.  The oxygen number tests for the amount of foreign organic material on the surface of the down. With this result you are looking for a low number to have a good result. The maximum industry standard is 10 mg/100 g sample. Hypoallergenic down must test at 4.8 mg or less.   Four of our down duvets contain super-cleaned hypoallergenic down that meets these stringent requirements: Mirage, Mirage Summer Weight, Heirloom and Heirloom Summer Weight.  And in pillows: Mirage, Heirloom and the Lyocell Blend Pillow. This is great news for allergy sufferers who love down!

06 September 06 - 11:30Press Clippings - Dwell Talon

Dwell's gorgeous Talon duvet cover from their exclusive "dwelledition" line was featured in Domino's July/August issue.

Domino

They've shown it without a duvet inside - - so basically as a bedspread, this is a great idea when you really love a duvet cover's design, but don't actually use a duvet.  It's a perfectly fine solution and looks especially sharp when the duvet cover is finished with piping at the edges like Dwell's Talon duvet cover.

Dwell Talon Duvet Cover

Domino's stylists have mixed the duvet cover with a bold striped bedskirt and striped shams. Mixing and matching like this is a great way to personalize a look.  Of course, the Talon duvet cover looks great with the shams that come with the set and the coordinating linen bedskirt and linen edge sheet set, but don't be afraid to do your own thing like they've done here.  It's fun to mix things up!
